Evergreen Valley Stable is located in Errington,
about 7 kilometres west of Parksville on the central east coast of
Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. Our stable sits on 10
acres in a beautiful forest valley nestled between the Strait of
Georgia in the east and the 6000 + ft. snow-covered mountains of
Vancouver Island in the west.
We are a young horse breeding stable. We are
small and we don't have big plans. We do have a big goal however.
That is our dedication to produce the most versatile family horse
from our specially chosen Canadian horse breeding stock.
I (Don Waterston) was looking for something to
keep me occupied after having taken early retirement. Our daughter
Jennifer had after graduation gone into the horse breeding industry
in the Vancouver area. I thought it would be an interesting venture
to go into horse breeding in my retirement and I talked them into
moving here from Vancouver. My wife (Pat) and I purchased this property
in January of 1999.
Our stable has 8 - 12X12 - in and out stalls with
large paddocks as well as 8 large outside paddocks with shelters.
We have 3 turnout fields and a trail in the bush with natural jumps.
A 60 ft round pen and a 200 X 70 riding ring.
Jennifer does the horse breeding and training.
Pat helps her with the feeding and mucking and I have the easy job
of looking after the stable maintenance.
Originally we were going to breed Canadian Sport
Horses. To that end we purchased two CSH mares and bred them that
summer to a CSH Paint stallion. Now all we had to do was wait 11
months for the foals to arrive. Little did we know that the best
was yet to come. That fall we came across a petite Canadian mare,
Flare, which had just arrived from Quebec and we immediately fell
in love with her. And as they say "the rest is history".
In September of 2000, Jennifer and I flew to Quebec
and then drove nearly 3000 kms. visiting almost two dozen Canadian
Horse breeders. We were looking for a stallion and another quality
broodmare. To our delight we found our stallion Gyco in northern
Quebec and a lovely mare Heidi south of Quebec City.
We now had the makings of a herd!
